To install the JRE on an macOS platform: Download the JRE.dmg file, jre-10.interim.update.patchosx-x64bin.dmg. Before the file can be downloaded, you must accept the license agreement. From either the browser Downloads window or from the file browser, double-click the.dmg file to launch it. Oracle Java for Mac or Java 7 JRE/Java SE Runtime Environment 7 is the official version of Java for Mac by Oracle that allows you to run Java applications and games, both in your web browser and within the OS X Desktop. Because of security concerns, its only recommended that you install Java for Mac if you really need it. Up until now, Apple has its own version of Java, which is out of step.


Scroll down until you see a heading Java SE Development Kit 8u241 followed by a table of JDK 8u241 download options. There click on 'Accept License Agreement' radio button.

A Thank you message will be displayed when you accept the license.

Now download jdk-8u241-macosx-x64.dmg of size 254.06 MB which is listed for Mac OS X x64.

A Finder window will appear, which containing an icon of an open box and with a name JDK 8 Update 241.pkg.

  • Now a new window appears which says 'Installer is trying to install new software. Type your password to allow this.' Provide your Administrator login and password and click on Install Software.
